Grandma's Applesauce Cake
- 1/4 Cup Horizon Organic Butter, softened - Aisle 1 Refrigeration
- 3 LArge Rose Acres Eggs - Aisle 1 Refrigeration
- 1/2 Cup Knudsen Apple Juice - Aisle 4
- 1/2 Cup Vermont Village Sweetened Applesauce - Aisle 2
- 1-7/8 Cups King Arthur's Whole Wheat Pastry Flour - Aisle 2
- 1 Fresh Organic Apple, washed, peeled, cored, * thinly sliced - Produce
- 1/2 Cup Raisins, optional - Pakaged Bulk
- 2 Tsp. Rumford Baking Powder - Aisle 2
- 1 Tsp. Rumford Baking Soda - Aisle 2
- 2 Tsp. Simply Organic Ground Cinnamon - Aisle 2
- Topping: Vermont Village Organic Unsweetened Applesauce, warmed over medium heat - Aisle 2
In a medium bowl, beat together butter, eggs, apple juice, & applesauce until creamy. Add flour, baking powder & soda, & cinnamon. Beat well. If using raisins, add now and stir. Oil and flour an 8-inch square baking pan Line the bottom with apples, one layer deep. Spoon batter over the apple layer and smooth the top of the batter. Bake 25-35 minutes at 350 degrees fahrenheit or until well browned. Invert onto wire rack to cool, apple side up. Serve apple side up with warm applesauce over each piece. Makes 6 servings.
