Product Policy
In determining whether a product is deserving of inclusion on Good Foods’ shelves, our buyers and managers will assess it for the following favored characteristics:
LOCAL
ORGANIC
HUMANELY RAISED/PRODUCED
SUSTAINABLY HARVESTED
MADE BY A CO-OP
GMO-FREE
FAIR TRADE
MADE BY A SMALL PRODUCER
OWNER/CUSTOMER REQUEST
MINIMALLY PROCESSED
EXCELLENT QUALITY and/or VALUE
FREE OF TRANS FATS OR OTHER KNOWN HARMFUL INGREDIENTS
MSC Sustainable Seafood Certification
The more of these characteristics a product has, the more likely it will earn a spot on our shelves. Of these, LOCAL and ORGANIC shall be valued most highly. Because the above characteristics can sometimes be in conflict with one another, our buyers and managers must use their judgment in balancing consumer needs and organizational values.
The Co-op will maintain an absolute ban on the following:
PRODUCTS TESTED ON ANIMALS
SEAFOOD ON THE MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM’S RED LIST
