July & August 2010 Partner -- East 7th Street Center
The East 7th Street Center is a community center located in downtown Lexington. It provides free, hot meals to youth 18 and under, Monday through Friday. The Center also offers homework help; science, art, and literacy activities; field trips; and the Our World in Pictures photography program. A new program this summer, SEEDS, will teach young people to grow and sell veggies (at a reasonable price) in food desert areas in Lexington. Thanks to our generous shoppers, Good Foods Market & Café donated $568.01 to Seedleaf, our May/June Give Where You Live Partner.
As part of our commitment to the community,
Good Foods Market & Café partners with a local nonprofit
organization for a two month period to raise money for and awareness of
the group's work in the community. The Give Where You Live program is
designed for organizations which promote social change in the areas of
peace, human rights, and human needs. Good Foods donates 10 cents per transaction with a reusable bag to the Give Where You Live Partner. Donations made by shoppers at the
register are matched with 25% of the total amount collected and
presented to the organization.

Education:
• Signs at the registers.
• Information on Good Foods website.
• Information in our monthly e-newsletter.
• Press release.
Dollars:
• Donations by shoppers at the register.
• Good Foods will donate 10¢ per transaction with a reusable bag(s) to the Give Where You Live partner.
• At month’s end, Good Foods will add 25% to the total amount donated from shoppers and present it to the organization.
Who is eligible?
Local organizations with a 501C3 nonprofit status. Organizations are eligible to apply for the program every two years.
We are looking for organizations that provide these services:
• Food for people in need.
• Education on self-sufficiency and improved lifestyles.
• Education on environmental issues and concerns, or to assist in clean up or preservation of the environment.
• Educational programs for youth.
• Supportive services or emergency shelter of those in need.
• Promote social change in the areas of peace, human rights and human needs.
