Fermenting Vegetables 101

In this class, participants will learn how to get started with fermenting cabbage at home. We will answer any questions, help troubleshoot your ferment failures and you’ll get to take some fermented vegetables home!
Along with the hands-on experience of starting a new ferment, students will learn about the practice of lacto-fermentation, an ancient and largely forgotten food way that was important not only to preserve vegetables but also to create probiotic-rich foods that promote gut health and increase the bioavailability of vitamins and nutrients.
PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING: a knife, cutting board, quart-sized glass jar or fermenter of your choice, quart-sized ziplock bag, large mixing bowl
The Co-op will provide the veggies (cabbage, carrots) and salt.
Tickets are $30 for general admission, $28 for Co-op owners and can be purchased here.
This class will take place in person in the Good Foods Community Room. We recommend masking as a Covid safety precaution.
