SOLD OUT – Fall Planting Workshop: Planning Your Butterfly Garden

Fall just happens to be a wonderful time to plants trees! Trees add an average of 10-20% to a property’s value. They also provide food and shelter for butterflies, pollinators, and baby hummingbirds. In this workshop,we will explore these connections and how to build them into your garden. Participants will each receive an acorn and we’ll learn how to grow a mighty oak from this tiny seed.

Students will learn:

1) The important but often unrecognized connection between native trees, pollinators, butterflies, and birds.

2) The extensive ecological and monetary value of trees when adding them to our homes, gardens, parks, farms, and green spaces.

3) Where to find tools and resources that are available for free online for learning more about the specific benefits of a tree that you plant.

4) How to grow a mighty oak from a tiny acorn.

This class is FREE, but spots are limited. Please make sure to reserve your ticket either through Eventbrite or at our Hospitality Desk.

About the instructors:

Connie May has a degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin and owns a small landscape company that designs mini-ecosystems. As Connie says, “We plant. The birds and bees visit the flowers and trees. The humans fall in love with them. Native landscapes make the world a happier, healthier place.”

Laura Greenfield has a degree in Geography from the University of Kentucky and manages Oakland Farm Trees, a native tree nursery in Paris, Kentucky. Laura also makes maps, some of which have visualized the extensive benefits of tree canopy. For her, native Kentucky trees are symbols of strength, beauty, and resilience.

Both Connie and Laura believe planting trees is as important as recycling – and can be a whole lot more fun!
